Piers A. Hemmingsen
Currently an Executive Director and a member of the management team of CIBC World Markets & Wealth Management Technology Division based in Toronto, Canada. Since 1995, Piers has been responsible for the firm's global Internet / Intranet project and roll-out (www.map.cibc.ca). During this time, he was also a member of the "CIBC On The Web" project team, a project manager for the acquisition of Oppenheimer in the US, and has more recently been actively involved in CIBC's strategic web-based initiatives (eg Candeal.CA). Before that assignment, Piers was based in London and managed the trading room technology for CIBC Wood Gundy Europe. Piers joined Wood Gundy as a systems programmer in 1980 and has headed a number of successful systems projects for the firm in various locations/countries since that time. He holds an Honours B. Comm from Carleton University (Ottawa), an Honours MBA in Finance from the University Of Toronto, and is a Fellow Of The Canadian Securities Institute. Piers has also worked for the Government Of Canada, Canadian Pacific Ltd., and Burroughs Corporation. He coded his first working computer program in 1972. From 1998-2002, Piers served as the Chair for the Information Technology Advisory Group at Upper Canada College (Toronto). He is a non-executive Director for VCS Timeless Canada, a wholly owned subsidiary of Christie Group Plc (London, England), that provides software services for the North American cinema industry. Piers Hemmingsen has represented Canada as an expert in online trading before the OECD in Paris and has been quoted in the UK Financial Times. He is frequently asked to speak at industry conferences (Canada, USA, Europe) on topics related to the web and its application for global financial services.
